Belgrade, 23 May 2014 – The Serbian government abolished at its session today, at the proposal of the Staff for Emergency Situations, the emergency situation in the territory of the Republic of Serbia which has been in force since 15 May due to floods that hit our country.

Speaking at the session that was open to the media, Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic thanked all ministers for their work in the previous days, and proposed the idea of making a special report for the Serbian Parliament and citizens on the measures taken during the floods.

Vucic stated that all ministers in the Serbian government will give up one month’s salary and these funds will be paid as assistance to those affected by the floods.

According to the Prime Minister, there is a recommendation for directors of state-owned companies and other functionaries to give up part of their salaries, but in a smaller amount than the ministers.

He pointed out that the difficult situation caused by the floods must not be an alibi for procrastination and cancellation of any of the obligations Serbia had assumed.

Vucic said that it is necessary to urgently prepare the labour law, the laws on planning and construction and on privatisation and bankruptcy.

The Prime Minister announced that the Social Economic Council will hold a session tomorrow, at which a set of reform laws will be discussed.

He said that German Chancellor Angela Merkel told him that the German people will not leave Serbia stranded and without help, and added that he accepted her invitation to visit Berlin on 11 June.
