Cyprus is one of the states firmly supporting Serbia on the issue of its territorial integrity and sovereignty, and Serbia supports Cyprus in the same way, the Serbian Foreign Minister said today.

Having ended the official visit to Cyprus, his first since assuming the new post, the Minister told the Serbian media in Nicosia that he also informed his counterpart Nikos Christodoulides about this unchanged position of Serbia on support to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Cyprus.

"Furthermore, Cyprus has been one of the biggest advocates for Serbia's membership of the European Union, making efforts to assist and support us on our European path, every step we take and at every instance ", Minister Selakovic said.

The Minister said that he was pleased that his first bilateral visit was to a friendly and brotherly country like Cyprus, adding that Serbs and Cypriots are tied by a similar mentality, culture, the same religion, historical ties, as well as shared problems regarding the preservation of territorial integrity and sovereignty.

Furthermore, the Minister added, we are also brought closer together by the future, because, he stressed, the strategic orientation of Serbia is none other than the future in Europe.

"There is a wealth of experience that Cypriots can share with us along the European path and they are more than invaluable to us", Minister Selakovic emphasized. He said that he discussed the support Cyprus extended to Serbia with all officials he had meet in Cyprus, but also that it could be even greater if we continue to intensify our ties.

"I am certain that the period ahead will see us carry out even stronger and better cooperation in all areas, thus helping each other to the further benefit of our two states", Minister Selakovic concluded.
