Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Nikola Selakovic met today in Nicosia with Presidential Commissioner for Humanitarian Issues and Overseas Cypriots Fotis Fotiou and discussed developing ties between the Serbs and Cypriots living abroad.

Selakovic and Fotiou agreed that the bilateral Memorandum of Cooperation between the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Cypriot Office of the Presidential Commissioner for Overseas Cypriots should be expanded to a trilateral format with Greece.

The Commissioner offered support to Serbia through sharing experiences on how to organize the diaspora, to ensure that the Serbian diaspora is better organized, like the Cypriot one.

The collocutors agreed that there was ample room for connectivity between the Serbian and Cypriot diasporas in representing and promoting our two states abroad.

They underlined that more attention should be focused on youth connectivity through learning about each other's history, language and culture, but also on establishing ties between entrepreneurs and companies.

The Serbian community in Cyprus amounts to around 2,000 persons.
